Enable Third Party Cookies
Introduction
In order for EdMod to work in Schoology and Canvas, Education Modified needs to be able to set third-party cookies on your browser. If the app is not able to do this, you may experience getting “stuck” on the approval screen in Schoology or Canvas. (I.E. When you click the ‘Approve’ button, nothing appears to happen.)
This behavior is usually caused by settings which prevent third-party cookies from being saved. Because these are the same types of cookies used by some advertisers, certain individuals and organizations choose to block them by default. These settings make Education Modified unusable as users cannot login properly within Schoology or Canvas.
Here is how to check that third-party cookies are enabled by browser:
Google Chrome (Desktop)
- Visit: chrome://settings/content
- Click ‘Cookies and site settings’
- Ensure that the ‘Block third-party cookies’ setting is turned off.
Google Chrome (iPad)
- Quit Chome. To do so:
- Double click your iPad's home button.
- Scroll horizontally through open apps until you find Chrome.
- Swipe up on Chrome, it should disappear.
- Double click your iPad's home button once more.
- Go to the Settings App.
- Scroll down to the Chrome row and click it.
- Ensure that "Allow Cross-Webiste Tracking" is turned on
- Reopen Chrome and you should be good to go.
Safari (Mac)
- With Safari open, go to the top menu and click the Safari -> Preferences
- Click the ‘Privacy’ Tab in the window that opens.
- Ensure that the ‘Website Tracking: Prevent cross-site tracking’ setting is unchecked.
Safari (iPad)
- Quit Safari. To do so:
- Double click your iPad's home button.
- Scroll horizontally through open apps until you find Safari.
- Swipe up on Safari, it should disappear.
- Double click your iPad's home button once more.
- Go to the Settings App.
- Scroll down to the Safari row and click it.
- Scroll down to the "Privacy & Security" settings and ensure the "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" and "Block All Cookies" settings are turned off.
- Reopen Safari and you should be good to go.
Firefox
- With Firefox open, go to the top menu and click the Firefox -> Preferences
- Click ‘Privacy & Security’ in the side menu
- Under ‘Content Blocking’ ensure that the ‘Standard’ setting is selected.
