Roster: How to Update your Roster (Schoology)
Introduction
To simplify the process of creating and maintaining your student roster, Education Modified pulls course, group, and student information on your behalf from Schoology. How this process works is described in detail in this guide.
One of the downsides of this approach is that it can take some time for EdMod to get rostering information from Schoology -- particularly if you have access to many courses and students.
To speed up this process, and make sure you can access your students quickly, EdMod only requires users to “Approve” EdMod access and refresh their rosters every 7 days.
However, there are scenarios when rosters are being updated more frequently or expected changes do not appear in EdMod. In those cases, we recommend users manually refresh their rosters with this simple process.
How to Update
To refresh your roster, access EdMod in Schoology and click the refresh button in the upper right-hand side of the “Student Information” Page.
Clicking this will bring you to the Approval screen, in which you’ll be prompted to grant EdMod approval to access Schoology data on your behalf. Click Approve.
This will bring you back into EdMod, and you should see a message stating that “Your Roster is Updating” in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. While this message and the blue bar under the main menu are present, the update is in progress. If you have many courses and students, this may take some time.
While the update is occurring, you are free to use EdMod as normal, but the rostering information will not yet be up to date.
Finally, once the update has been completed, a message stating “Update Complete” will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Once this appears, all rostering data should now be up to date!
