Schoology Support - FAQs

Having Trouble Logging In

Are you getting stuck on the "Approval" screen while accessing Education Modified in Schoology? The most common cause of this problem are browser settings which block third party cookies. You can follow the steps in this guide to adjust the settings which commonly cause this problem.

If you have followed these instructions and you continue to encounter this issue, please contact our support team through the contact button at the top right-hand corner or email us at Support@educationmodified.com with the following information:

  • The email you use to login to Schoology.
  • The browser and operating system you are using.
  • A screenshot of what you are seeing.

Why am I not seeing certain students?

Do you not have access to certain students who you expected to see in Education Modified? This is likely mostly due to either a rostering issue in Schoology, or an out of date roster in Education Modified. To help narrow that down:

  • Are those student(s) currently part of a course or group for which you are in Admin in Schoology?

EdMod relies on courses and groups to pull rosters from Schoology, so if you access student information in another way, they will not be accessible to you in EdMod. (You can read more about how rostering works here.)

The solution here is to add the student(s) in question to one of your courses or groups in Schoology and then update your roster in EdMod.

  • If the student(s) are members of a course or group you are an admin for, is your roster in EdMod updated?

If the student(s) were recently added to your roster, or a new course or group was added in the last week or so, you will have to update your roster in EdMod to make them appear. Doing so is easy, just follow this guide

Why am I seeing Certain Students?

Are you seeing students who you had not expected to see in Education Modified? This is likely mostly due to either a rostering issue in Schoology, or an out of date roster in Education Modified. To help narrow that down:

  • Are those student(s) currently part of a course or group for which you are in Admin in Schoology?

EdMod relies on courses and groups to pull rosters from Schoology, so if you have access to student(s) in one or more courses or groups, they will be accessible to you in EdMod. (You can read more about how rostering works here.)

The solution here would be to remove the student(s) in question from the course or group in Schoology and then update your roster in EdMod.

Why am I Seeing Parent and Teacher Names?

This is a frustrating byproduct of how Education Modified has to pull rostering information from Schoology. You can read the full breakdown of how that happens here.

The short version is that when EdMod pulls a list of members for a course or group from Schoology, we are only told whether a member is an admin or non-admin member of that group. We are not told whether the member is a student, teacher, or parent.

Therefore, when loading the members of a course or group, we have no way of distinguishing between teachers, parents, and students within the list of non-admin members.

So, if you are an admin of a course or group in Schoology that contains non-admin members who are parents or teachers (for example, a training course or parent contact group) they will appear in EdMod.

There is nothing Education Modified can automatically do about this at this time, we have asked Schoology to make a change to how they send us information, but no action has yet been taken.

However, we can exclude specific Courses or Groups from our roster syncing process, which would prevent those members from being added to Education Modified.

All we need is a list of Course and Group titles that you would like to exclude from the roster sync. (With titles appearing exactly as they do in Schoology.) Send those along, and we can add them to our exclusion list. On the next roster sync, those courses and groups will be ignored, and the parent and teacher names should disappear from Education Modified.
